Former Celtic Boss Neil Lennon admitted that his current club Bolton approached Celtic late on in the transfer window about a deal for Anthony Stokes.
The Bolton manager wanted another striker in and thought the man he signed for Celtic would do a job in the Championship. However any advances made by the former Parkhead boss were rebuffed by Celtic who didn’t want to lose Stokes without suitable cover.
“We made an enquiry for Anthony but the club weren’t prepared to let him out,” said Lennon. “We want to bring in one more striker and Anthony was one we looked at, but we couldn’t get it done,”
Celtic have been criticised for their lack of cover up-front, failing to bring in another striker before the deadline after Guidetti, Scepovic, Pukki, Balde and Fridjonsson all headed for the exit with only Ciftci signed in return.
While Stokes may not be vital for Ronny Deila’s side he definitely adds a little depth to a very shallow striking pool.
