Neil Lennon has confirmed he did try and re-sign Victor Wanyama in the summer window but the deal never got off the ground.

The Kenyan is surplus to requirements at Spurs and could have made a loan move. However, the Celtic manager admits it was too difficult a deal to get up and running.

“There was interest but it never got off the ground.”

“Could we look at it again in January? We’ll have to wait and see.

“We might not want to with the balance of the squad now, as well as the affordability.”

Celtic do need another strong ball winning midfielder in their ranks. Wanyama’s fee and wages is always going to make it tough for any return.

Scott Brown is playing more games than he should perhaps be playing because the lack of a backup.
