Former Celtic manager Neil Lennon has drawn an interesting parallel between the current situations at Celtic and Manchester City, noting that both clubs are experiencing unexpected challenges despite their recent dominance in their respective leagues.

Speaking on PLZ Soccer, Lennon highlighted that both teams are going through a rough patch, with Manchester City having won only one game in six and sitting fourth in the Premier League, while Celtic has suffered back-to-back defeats in the Scottish Premiership, a first since 2013.

This slump in form has led to unrest among fans, as evidenced by the chants of ‘sack the board’ heard at Celtic Park.

Lennon said that Celtic’s current struggles are part of football, especially given the high standards the club has set over the years.

Rodgers will look forward to the challenge. There is no question there is a title race on. Sometimes that’s what you want as a neutral.

“There’s nothing come to me that says ‘Celtic can’t win the league’. They are just going through a bad run, at the minute. But because the bar has been so high for so long. A little blip, or maybe more than a little blip like this, it’s something the fans aren’t used to. But it’s part of football.

“I was down at the Etihad, they won the Treble last season. They have one game in five. They were 2-0 up (against Crystal Palace). Drew 2-2. Fans came off and there was a little bit of unrest.

“But there is an acceptance there that the manager has the team to sort this out. I feel it’s the same with Celtic.”

When Celtic should really be kicking on from their treble last season, it feels like we’re not even stagnating but going backwards. There was so much positivity surrounding the club just a few months ago, and now there is so much negativity on and off the pitch, from all sections of the fans.
