Clyde 1 SSB pundit Gordon Dalziel believes that underperforming Celtic stars are putting Brendan Rodgers under pressure.

The former striker has expressed his bewilderment over the handling of Kyogo Furuhashi by Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers this season. The Japanese striker, who was a standout performer under former manager Ange Postecoglou, has seen a noticeable dip in form..

Kyogo was the Scottish Premiership’s top goalscorer and voted Player of the Season by his peers and teammates last season. However, under Rodgers, there has been a marked change in his effectiveness on the pitch, netting only six times in the league as we reach the end of December.

The pundit also pointed out the broader impact on the team, noting that players like Alistair Johnston and Greg Taylor haven’t reached the heights of the previous season.

Speaking on Clyde’s flagship show, the pundit voiced his concerns, saying, “First and foremost some of the games they have played, some of the team selections have been a bit baffling for me.

“He’s changed one or two like Kyogo trying to come in and play a bit deeper. I think everybody looks at that and thinks that Kyogo is most dangerous playing on the shoulder and would make those runs.

“I think if you look at the players like Taylor, for instance, last year, even Johnston at fullback they’ve not hit the heights. And when that happens then the manager comes under a bit of pressure.

“And you look at the substitutions for instance at the weekend which baffled me as well.”

Celtic need to get their act together, and so so fast. Individually and collectively, they’re just not good enough, and with the once eight-point lead likely to switch to being a point behind, after Rangers play both their games in hand, it’s going to be a hard graft.

  3. Lets face it, BR has changed Ange’s high pressing, high tempo, attacking game to the same boring stuff he subjected us to, just before he left, last time. He’s also chopping & changeing the team every week so doesn’t know is best team. Is it any wonder the players’ form has dipped & there’s an obvious lack of confidence there.

Grant it, we’ve had injuries to contend with – Hatate, Abada & Maeda have been sorely missed but I’m still not convinced they’d make that much difference under BR’s system. We have also not replaced the quality of Mooy & Jota which is down to Lawwell & Co with their penny-pinching spend on ‘prospects’ who, it seems, are just not good enough.
Lawwell blew the 10IAR season with his arrogant interference in everything & Lennon coming back a second time was a disaster – the same scenario is shaping up for this season with a manager returning for a second spell.

I hope I am wrong but BR’s demeaner hasn’t looked good to me from the day he came back & things certainly don’t look good at present. Fingers crossed though that somehow things will get sorted but they need to be – & quickly.

  4. The players are not under performing.
Rodgers has ruined a winning team with his negative style of play, everything is slowed down with his boring tactics, he couldn’t run a bath without the water freezing over.
Rodgers had the chance to reject the summer projects that Lawell signed.
Put me in charge of a team and I want my players, players who have skill, pace, enthusiasm, tackling ability, but also players who bring a winning mentality and encourage the team.
Rodgers & Lawell are destroying Celtic.
