Omonia Nicosia didn’t get off to a winning start under Neil Lennon who fielded quote a few youngsters for his debut with the Cypriot side.

Omonia took on Doxa this weekend, and at one point, it looked like Neil would get his winning start. However, a 92nd minute equaliser from Doxa somewhat soured Lennon’s first managerial game back in over a year – the game ending 2-2.

As quoted by the Sunday Mail Neil Lennon spoke after the game: “We had a young team out today, obviously we rested some first-team players for the game on Wednesday, so it was a good experience for a lot of the younger players.

“There were aspects of the game, particularly in the second-half, that pleased me a lot.”

Omonia Nicosia has a quarter-final cup game, and Neil has made it the priority.

Lennon’s new side is in the bottom half of the league playoff but in no real danger of relegation. However, the chance to win a trophy is still very much there with the Cypriot Cup still up for grabs.

Neil will be looking to get his team right and hope they can make a good fist of things in the latter part of the competition.

The manager might be a little rusty after being out of the game for so long. Until this weekend, Neil hadn’t been in the dugout since February 2021. The club let the Irishman go after a disastrous season behind closed doors.

While we won’t be following Neil’s progress on a weekly basis, we will check in on him from time to time as we do with a lot of former Celts
