LIAM SCALES signed for Celtic last week and will have been preparing to make his Celtic Park bow in September.

However, the defender has received a shock call up to the Ireland squad after call-offs this week and will now join up with Stephen Kenny’s side for their next two fixtures.

Scales has played at Under 21 and under 18 level for his country but is yet to gain a full first team squad international cap.

His move to Celtic has clearly put the defender on the Irish setups radar and he could get the chance to make his Ireland bow before his Celtic debut.

Signing from Shamrock Rovers, Scales has come in to help supplement Ange Postecoglou’s squad and could play on the left hand side of defence at both centre-back and left-back.

It will be interesting to see if the player gets any game time or if he’s there to make up the numbers at the moment.

It will have been a whirlwind few weeks for the new Celt and we wish him all the best.
