LUCA CONNELL joined Celtic two weeks ago after choosing not to stay on at Bolton with his youth contract. Celtic paid above what they needed to in order to secure the player but have still grabbed themselves a bargain.

The defensive midfielder is now being put through his paces and patiently waiting for his chance under Neil Lennon. He may not have to wait long if the Celtic gaffer throws the player in against Rennes on Saturday at Celtic Park.

The French outfit are heading over to Glasgow for a friendly and Celtic fans may see Luca make his debut along with Christopher Jullien.

Celtic got the deal done for Connell pretty quickly in the end which was surprising considering the interest surrounding the player.

Luca confirmed today that there was interest in him from down south but once Celtic came calling that’s where he wanted to be.

“There were a lot of interested clubs down south but when I heard of Celtic’s interest’ I knew it was the club for me.” Luca told CelticTV.

“I’d love to make my debut tomorrow. My family will be there so it would be a special occasion.”

It will be good to see the lad get some game time over the next few months.
