CELTIC could be setting themselves up for a big fall if they don’t sell Kristoffer Ajer this summer.

The player has one-year left on his Celtic deal and has made it clear he would like to move on, but the Norweigan has also stated the club had promised him a move this window after being convinced to stay last term.

The obvious financial implications of letting Ajer’s deal run into its final six months is apparent to all, but bubbling under the surface, Celtic are playing a dangerous game with one of their biggest selling points to young talented players.

Celtic reportedly turned down a £12m plus future addons for their star defender from Brentford over the weekend. [SunSport]

The hoops have made some great buys over the years, Ajer included, where the club promise game time, the opportunity to win trophies as they develop before being sold by the club.

If they renege on Ajer and force him to stay for another season, it sends a message to young talented players across Europe and to their agents that the club is not the best place to do business.

You give up far more than a payday for Ajer in my opinion. Not to mention you have an unhappy player on your books.

It’s time to do the sensible thing and come to an agreement to let the defender leave.

  1. Agreed-Ajer has been good for Celtic and vice versa.
For a player entering the last year of his contract, i would have thought anything around £10m was a fair offer so its in interests of all parties to let him go now
