There are reports this morning Odsonne Edouard is now considering a Celtic stay for this season.
On the face of it, it would appear to be good news but if the Frenchman stays and doesn’t sign a new deal it’s an absolute disaster for Celtic.
Eddy is in the final year of his deal, many expected the striker to be a Leicester player in the coming weeks but now that deal is off according to MailSport, who are also claiming Eddy is contemplating another year at Celtic.
Right now, the market isn’t there for massive money moves and top wages. Clubs have been cutting their cloth all over Europe.
If Eddy stays and plays in a half-hearted manner only to sign a deal with some other club in six months and pocket a massive signing-on fee, it would be a financial disaster for the Hoops.
Celtic spent £9m on Edouard three years ago with the plan to sell him when the time was right. If the player decides to stay, that money is gone.
Getting a large fee for the Frenchman this year would help the club in their rebuild.
If Edouard does stay and fails to sign a new deal then he should be frozen out of the team. Fans had enough of his half hearted performances last season and the best we could expect would be more of the same or worse. Get Lee Griffith’s fit.
Have a word in his ear, sign a new deal and play your heart out under the new management. Then when you’re back to your brilliant best you can sign for Man City the following season for £25m and we’ll drop you a couple mil, makes sense to me.
