We are a Celtic site who like to discuss all things Celtic – a lot of the time we get stick for being over critical of the club. When we are, this doesn’t come out of any driven agendas against the club. Everyone who writes for the site is a Celtic supporter.

So now we’ve got that out the way – we wonder about the Daily Record and what they purport to be. An image of a headline from a couple of years ago has resurfaced online and it gives you a taste of what we’re dealing with.

The comparison back three years ago when Kieran Tierney was the breakout star, we got this headline from The Record – the link to the article is now dead.

People can say hindsight is a wonderful thing but at the time I remember being just as perplexed as I sit here today. They say it with such assurance you second guess yourself.

Because Barry McKay played for the other side of Glasgow at the time and was Scottish, he was held against Kieran Tierney and we were told McKay was the special one.

In Scotland, Kieran’s achievements and individual performances dwarfed that of McKay’s.

Kieran Tierney is Celtic’s record breaking export and is now in an FA Cup final with Arsenal – having bagged three trebles before he left.

Barry McKay spent three start of this year on loan to Fleetwood town while on loan from Swansea.

The disparity in career trajectory is no surprise to us but yet we see this sort of sycophantic journalism all the time. He comparison at the time want there and it certainly isn’t there now. It makes you wonder if we’re reading a fanzine.

We continue to see things like this in the Scottish media. We even had Tom English laughing at the thought of Virgil van Dijk being sold by Celtic for £10m plus back when the defender was sought after. The player eventually went for £75m to via Southampton – winning a Champions League and recently the Premier League.

Some football journalism in this country has given life to many sites like ourselves who continue to offer you an alternative.
