In the world of football, there are players who shine brightly, and then there are those who become the very essence of the teams they represent. Cameron Carter-Vickers, the indomitable centre-half of Celtic, is undoubtedly the latter. His performances this season have been nothing short of extraordinary, earning him a well-deserved nomination for the Scottish Football Writers’ Player of the Season award.

Carter-Vickers’ joined from Tottenham in Ange’s first season. Initially joining on loan, his impact was immediate and profound, helping the Hoops secure a double in his first season. Recognising his immense talent and contribution, Celtic made his move permanent last summer, a decision that has proven to be a masterstroke.

This season, Carter-Vickers has been the bedrock of Celtic’s defence, his presence a constant reassurance for his teammates and fans alike. His defensive prowess, organisational skills, and unwavering commitment to the team make him an indispensable asset. But it was his performance in the Scottish Cup semi-final against The Rangers that truly epitomised his importance to the team.

In what can only be described as a tour de force, Carter-Vickers was a colossus at the back, repelling anything that came near Celtic’s box. Despite needing knee surgery, he chose to delay his operation to ensure he could help Celtic secure a place in the final. This act of selflessness and dedication to the cause is a testament to his character, both as a player and as a person.

Joe Hart, Celtic’s goalkeeper, couldn’t help but sing his praises after the semi-final. “What a top player. What a top professional. I love him,” Hart said. “He’s not just a great centre-half, he’s a person who’s been gritting his teeth and sticking his boots on for us. As a team and a club, we appreciate that.”

Carter-Vickers’ nomination for the Player of the Season award sees him up against fellow teammates Callum McGregor and Kyogo. While all three have had exceptional seasons, there is something uniquely compelling about Carter-Vickers’ story. His selfless dedication, his unwavering commitment, and his indomitable spirit make him a standout candidate.

His performances this season have been a testament to his talent, his character, and his commitment to the team. The Scottish Football Writers’ Player of the Season award would be a fitting recognition of his immense contribution. While individual awards should never usurp the collective honours a team wins, it would be nice to see CCV pick up something for his efforts.

He is certainly CeltsAreHere’s Player of the Season and it’s not even close.
