JACK HENDRY may have a certain Celtic coach to thank for his call-up with Stevie Woods admitting Alex McLeish asked about the new Celtic signing after his Glasgow Derby debut.

Woods, Celtic’s goalkeeping coach has taken up a role with Alex McLeish’s new look Scotland and the Scotland boss came to the Celtic man after some squad withdrawals.

“He (McLeish) asked me about him last week because he came to attention after the Rangers game.

“I gave him a positive feedback but I think he was well aware of his qualities before. I was just backing that up. It has been brilliant for him and I think he has got the capabilities”

Hendry has been eased into the Celtic side and is not considered a first team starter yet.

His experience with the international squad could be invaluable in the bhoys development.

It’s no doubt a surprise call-up but Hendry will be keen to make his mark.

  1. Jack Hendry got a call-up simply be signing for Celtic. If he was still at Dundee he would never have been given a cap. Same thing happens all the time, someone plays well for a smaller club for 3 or 4 seasons and never gets a cap but the minute they sign for Celtic or them they are immediately a better player and start to feature. You can see why smaller clubs claim bias against the big two.
