In the December Glasgow Derby where Celtic secured a win with goals from Paulo Bernardo and Kyogo, Callum McGregor stood out by dominating the midfield against Rangers players Sterling, Cantwell, and Lundstrum.

Despite this, Rangers manager Philippe Clement suggested in a recent press conference that he didn’t see McGregor as dominating the game, while also acknowledging McGregor’s influence.

This perspective seems at odds with McGregor’s actual performance, where he played a key role in both defending and initiating attacks, effectively managing the midfield and offering protection to a less experienced back four. Clement’s comments appear to be aimed at motivating his team by downplaying McGregor’s impact.

Looking ahead, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers faces a decision on whether McGregor, who is returning from injury, will start in the powder keg tie match at Ibrox on Sunday. Rodgers has stated the need to carefully consider McGregor’s role in the game but he seemed sure the Celtic captain would be in the squad in some capacity.
