It has been revealed that Celtic are possibly planning on visiting Japan during the summer [Sponichi].

The other clubs set to be participating in the friendly tournament include Manchester City, Bayern Munich and PSG.

It would make great sense for the Hoops to continue to grow their audience and market further-afield as the club currently have six Japanese players on their books.

Celtic headed to Australia during the World Cup winter break for two friendlies against Sydney FC and Everton as big crowds turned out for Ange Postecoglou’s homecoming.

The boss is also very well respected in Japan having won the J-League with Yokohama F Marinos back in 2019.

In years gone by, Celtic had made some inroads into the Japanese market after the success of Shunsuke Nakamura but never rekindled the relationship until Postecoglou returned to the club. After the addition of Kyogo Furuhashi, there was even a Celtic FC Japan Twitter page set up which appears to have been a great success.

A huge bonus of winning the Scottish Premiership is getting automatic entry into the Champions League meaning that the Hoops don’t have to play early European qualifiers which in turn free’s up space in the calendar for trips such as this.

Competing in tournaments like this also tend to come with a very big financial bonus too.
