Celtic winger Jota has been rewarded for his incredible form this season with a place in Portugal’s provisional World Cup squad [Football Scotland].

The 23-year-old who has been missing for the Scottish champions since the 2-1 victory over St Johnstone at the beginning of October where he was subbed off for Daizen Maeda will be hoping to swiftly return to action.

There could be a possibility of Jota featuring against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League but it will be important for him to get back before the World Cup.

That importance has just been increased with the former Benfica man being named in head coach Fernando Santos’s 55-man provisional squad.

So far this season, Jota has made 12 appearances for Ange Postecoglou’s side providing five goals and five assists. One of those strikes came against RB Leipzig in the Champions League which will have caught many people’s attention.

Santos will confirm his final 26-man squad two days prior to Celtic playing their last match before the World Cup.

While Jota may not feature in the final squad selected to head to Qatar it will be a welcome boost for the forward who committed his future to the Hoops this summer as he signed on a 5-year deal.

He is yet to feature for the senior team but has previously represented Portugal at under-21 level.
