Over the last year or so, Motherwell defender Declan Gallagher has been mentioned as a possible Celtic target with his contract coming to an end this summer.

Talk of that in the press began to come about again in the last few months and more recently with the Scotland International streaming Call of Duty online alongside former Celt Kieran Tierney.

As quoted by Not the Old Firm, speaking about his links elsewhere Gallagher was quick to shut down any suggestion that he is currently looking for on a move elsewhere insisting his focus remains on Motherwell.

“The press picked up that me and KT were playing (Call of Duty) the other day there. KT gave me a text about it, but I do love my Warzone!

“But that’s just my time away from football, my downtime. I know a lot of people think it takes my eye off the ball but that’s all just a bit of a laugh. It’s always all talk, isn’t it?

“I’ve been in these situations many a time, I was in them when I was at Livingston, I was in them before Livingston as well when I was at Dundee, and it’s just transfer talk.

“At the end of the day, I’ve just concentrated on Motherwell like I’ve said from the start. I was always concentrated on Motherwell and what we had to do this season, safety and all of that.

“All the talk about me moving and stuff like that I just put that to the back of my head, because it’s not important.”

With Declan Gallagher, it feels like his name pops up every so often when it comes to Celtic targets for next season.

For me, the 30-year old defender would be a no-go and our focus should go elsewhere to other defensive targets.

This season, we have seen good sides of him against the likes of Serbia for Scotland late last year. But we have also seen him languishing down the bottom of the table at Motherwell.

Ultimately, Gallagher would be a cheap option with his contract coming to an end in the months to come. With the amount of work needing to be done to the squad this summer, some may look to that as a good thing. But again, in my opinion, I believe we can do a lot better when it comes to defensive signings.
