ANGE POSTECOGLOU has said that he’s satisfied that Celtic winger Mikey Johnston is getting some much-needed game time while on loan to Portuguese club Vitoria Guimaraes.

He’s not had the attacking output as many would’ve expected, scoring just the three goals in all competitions, only one of which was in the league, and setting up a further three. The numbers are quite underwhelming.

He’s started about half of the team’s matches and come off the bench a fair few times too.

In recent days, it’s been suggested that Johnston could look to play for Ireland, with some outlets reporting he will be part of the country’s next squad.

Ange Postecoglou has admitted he’s happy with these developments and believes it could be an opportunity to take the player’s game to the next level.

Speaking during Friday’s press conference, Ange Postecoglou said: [Celtic TV]

“In terms of his international football, that is a decision he has made and I’m sure he has given that plenty of thought with the people around him. I think international football is a fantastic part of a footballer’s career.

“It allows you to have new experiences and different experiences, and an opportunity to take your game to another level because of the different kind of context international football brings.”

Making a comment about the player’s future at Celtic, the boss said:

“We needed him to play more regular football and he is doing that. At the end of the year we will look at it and decide what is best for his future.”
