ANGE POSTECOGLOU was full of praise for Stephen Welsh during his Friday press conference.

The young defender made his breakthrough a couple of seasons ago and became a regular last season. This season, he’s been unable to break Starfelt and Carter-Vickers’ partnership, not featuring in a league match since Boxing Day.

However, Postecoglou still rates the Scottish defender who was a starter when Postecoglou arrived at Celtic.

As quoted by the Daily Record, the Celtic boss said;

“We’ve got some fantastic players in the squad. Stephen Welsh has been outstanding for us, but unfortunately, we can’t fit him into the squad because of the balance.”

It’s great to have squad options that the manager can call upon. Coming through the academy, it’s great to see him get recognition from his manager.

In January, Stephen was linked with a move to the Italian top flight, but Postecolou was unwilling to let the defender leave when the bid came in.

Hopefully, Celtic fans will see Stephen again before the end of the season. Maybe Postecoglou will field more of his youngsters when the league is mathematically finished.
