Celtic bowed out the Sydney Super Cup on penalties to Everton on Sunday but keeper Asmir Begović was full of praise for Postecoglou’s side.

Many Celtic fans who got up during the early hours of the morning to tune in to watch the game may have been shocked to see that Frank Lampard’s side had travelled over 10,000 miles to park the bus but Begović believes the test was exactly what his Toffees side needed.

Everton haven’t had a great start to season having headed into the early winter break one point above the relegation zone in the Premier League above only Nottingham Forest, Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Postecoglou named a very strong starting eleven as he wanted to use the tournament as preparation for the second part of the season with his side dominating majority of the game.

The Scottish champions by far had the better chances throughout the game but failed to take their chances in front of goal and were eventually defeated on penalties in the glamour friendly.

This had been the story for the majority of the Hoops Champions League campaign with plenty of players and coaches praising their approach to matches.

“It was nice to win, nice to put on a performance, and when you play a team like Celtic, you know you’re always going to be in for a competitive game – that’s exactly what we got today,” said Asmir Begović speaking to Everton TV.

“I think the commitment, the effort, the attitude was spot on (from both sides), which is exactly what you need. Obviously, we’ve had a long few days travelling and everything, so we need to be fully committed to get a performance.”

The veteran keeper has came up against many a good club side during his years in the Premier League having also picked up a winners medal with Chelsea.

Although some regular first team players may have been missing for both teams, Celtic showed that they good once again give a decent account of themselves as Postecoglou’s reputation continues to grow.
