Celtic gaffer Brendan Rodgers is not among the nominees for PFA Scotland Manager of the Year.

Killie gaffer Derek McInnes, Dundee boss Tony Docherty, and Falkirk’s John McGlynn have all been put up for the award.

While these candidates are well worthy of their nominations, former Celtic striker turned pundit John Hartson has been taken aback that Rodgers is not among the suggested names.

He said: [Glasgow Times] “I am surprised by that (snub).

“Okay, it’s not been a scintillating season like he’s had before, like the season where they were completely unbeaten. And I know they can’t win the treble. But Celtic lost a few players in the summer and I don’t think the recruitment was great in January. There could have been a few more players come in.

“He asked for quality. Every time you listened to Brendan doing interviews, especially after the Champions League games, he spoke about quality.

“But if he wins the league in his first season back I think that’s a huge achievement, I really do.”

There is a long way to go yet before any silverware is handed out. The criteria for Celtic to succeed are apparent yet arduous.

Indeed, the two home games that lie ahead are the toughest domestic ones the Hoops could ask for.

This season, Rodgers and Co. have never done it the easy way, and one imagines that to be the case over the remaining matches. In the upcoming five, the success of Celtic’s season and Brendan Rodgers’ return to the club will be dictated.

Although the gaffer is not up for Manager of the Year, if he brings home the bacon, fans won’t have many complaints.
