BBC Pundit Michael Stewart has handed Celtic and Ange Postecoglou a warning over the ‘major issues’ the Hoops face in defence.

As quoted by Glasgow Live speaking on BBC Sportsound, the former Hearts midfielder claimed that Thursday victory over Jablonec might have been a positive, but without upgrades soon, the pressure will continue to heap on the 55-year old boss.

When asked if defensive frailties were the main issue, Stewart responded: “I don’t think there’s any question. That is a major issue for Celtic.

“They’re trying to rectify it with Starfelt and Joe Hart, but it’s going to take time.

“And more recruits as well, because the quality isn’t at the level that they’re looking for.

“They weren’t great goals to concede, and it’s going to be something Postecoglou is concerned about.

“All he can do at the moment is muddle his way through and buy himself time.

“The Jablonec win was a positive, but if results don’t improve, it just continues to heap more and more pressure and makes it more difficult for him to implement what he’s trying to do and sign the players he wants.”

The defensive problems have been clear to see from a Celtic fan’s perspective, and some stated their concern months before this season began.

Whilst we look to have added some decent options on paper, there is still a lot of work to be done in terms of bringing in reinforcements for Ange Postecoglou to work with.

As we enter the final month of the window, you would be hoping that plenty of work is going on behind the scenes to secure the deals needed to sure up the backline.

Otherwise, as Michael Stewart states, the pressure will heap onto this side even further.
