Alexandro Bernabei departed Celtic on Thursday, joining Brazilian top-flight side SC Internacional on loan until the end of 2024.

The move seemed to progress rather swiftly, with Brendan Rodgers having no qualms about losing one of his two senior left-backs. The gaffer didn’t seem to rate the Argentinian defender.

Although he has officially left, there has been no mention of an option to buy in Internacional’s deal to bring the 23-year-old back to South America. He will return to Celtic at the end of the calendar year.

Already this season, the likes of Bosun Lawal, Mikey Johnston, and Kwon have hit new heights while out on loan from the Scottish champions. Former Hoops right-back Mark Wilson thinks that Bernabei will be the next to do so.

Speaking on Thursday’s Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, the pundit admitted he has no doubts that the left-back will exceed with Internacional: “I’m sure he’ll go to the Brazilian club and he’ll fit straight back in”, he said.

“He seemed to have a wee bit going forward and that wee burst but just not the real quality that fitted in with anything at Celtic.”

It says a lot about Bernabei’s tenure at Celtic that supporters are not too frustrated with losing him ahead of a crucial title run-in. He didn’t truly impress in Glasgow’s east end and to see him leave is in no way surprising.
