Celtic will narrowly win the title, according to pundit Gordon Dalziel. The former journeyman thinks his old team Rangers will miss out on the Premiership crown due to one key factor.

This season, Celtic haven’t had a fully fit squad at many points. Several first-team stars have been injured at one point or another.

At the minute, for example, Reo Hatate and Cameron Carter-Vickers are both on the sidelines. When they come back and The Bhoys are at full strength, Dalziel believes the Hoops will drive on and secure the silverware.

He said the champions would retain the title at the beginning of the current campaign, and he has kept on with that mantra.

Celtic win Scottish Premiership

Speaking on Tuesday’s Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Dalziel said: “I tipped Celtic at the beginning to win the league. I am staying with that because they have important players to come back.

“I think with the players, the manager and everything they have got, I think they will just pip them (Rangers).”

The current title race is the closest one in living memory for younger supporters. 2011 was the last time the Scottish champions were crowned on the final day.

Over a decade on, that could prove the case once more and although they have let a seven-point lead evaporate, people shouldn’t forget that the current Hoops team have been over the course several times.

Their experiences in being crowned champions before will only serve The Bhoys well going into the final weeks and months of the campaign.
