Celtic captain Callum McGregor was full of praise for his midfield counterpart Reo Hatate after the league leaders thumped Aberdeen 4-0.

The 25-year-old was on top form as he bagged two goals to be given the man of the match award after a terrific performance against the Dons.

It wasn’t just his two goals which were impressive on the day but his overall play was also phenomenal as he seemed to continuously be apart of everything good that Celtic did.

When he departed the pitch, he was given a standing ovation from around Celtic Park.

Although there may be some headaches for Ange Postecoglou heading into the Viaplay Cup final next weekend, Hatate won’t be one of them as he is guaranteed to start the match against Rangers.

“He was outstanding,” said McGregor speaking to [Celtic TV].

“You could see how much of a special talent he is.

“He’s getting better every week and with every game that he plays in that position.

“He’s learning it, understanding it and he’s getting goals now as well on a regular basis.

“I’m delighted for him and it was a fantastic performance again.”

This has been Hatate’s first full season in Glasgow and he is undoubtedly in the running to be the Hoops player of the year. It’s incredible to think that he hasn’t even been playing senior football for three years.

He is in fine form heading to the cup final having also bagged a brace against St Mirren the week before in the Scottish Cup.

Hatate first endeared himself to the Celtic support when he scored two goals against Rangers last February and he may just fancy his chances of getting on the scoresheet on Sunday.
