Reo Hatate’s journey this season with Celtic has been fraught with challenges, each more testing than the last.
The Japanese star has found himself side-lined more often than not, grappling with multiple injuries that have kept him away from the pitch.
Speaking openly about his struggles, Hatate said, “I have been repeatedly injured and not been able to contribute to the team. I want to win as many titles as possible and I want to show the Celtic fans a performance that once again makes them think, ‘Celtic need Reo Hatate’.”
This season has been particularly tough for Hatate, he’s has to reassess everything. “The most recent injury was my third this season and although it was in a different location, it was a huge shock to have sustained a similar injury over and over again,” he admitted. After returning from the Asian Cup, the disappointment of yet another injury weighed heavily on him, especially since one of his earlier injuries occurred during a significant match against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.
“I handled my feelings and emotions as I felt them and I spent a lot of time feeling depressed,” he recounted. Yet, it was the support from his family, particularly his parents, that provided a silver lining. “My father was concerned about my injury and my mother was also concerned about my condition. They contacted me, which naturally led me to become more positive.”
Hatate’s return to action against Livingston saw him looking sharp, despite the lengthy absence and rigorous rehab. Helping the bhoys to a 3-0 victory.
It’s refreshing to see a footballer openly discuss the mental and emotional toll of injuries, reminding fans that players are more than just athletes—they’re individuals facing their own battles.
Looking ahead, Hatate is eager to make up for lost time and is set on helping Celtic clinch more titles. His determination and positive outlook, honed through tough experiences, are poised to play a crucial role in the remaining fixtures of the season, particularly in the anticipated match against Rangers at Ibrox. This clash is not just another game; it’s an opportunity for Hatate to prove his worth and for Celtic to maintain their position in the title race.
Hatate’s story, captured through his candid reflections shared with Sportiva, underscores the resilience required to overcome personal setbacks.
We hope Reo can stay fit now and make a real dent in this title race. No time like the present.
