In the wake of recent reports linking former Chelsea and Brighton boss Graham Potter to the managerial vacancy at Celtic, we delve into the details of what’s unfolding behind the scenes at Celtic Park.

RecordSport reports Potter’s sights are set on a role in the English Premier League for his next venture.

While Potter’s managerial capabilities are held in high regard, his stint at Chelsea didn’t unfold as expected, making his potential appointment at Celtic a topic of concern. If he were to take the helm at Celtic, his past failures at Chelsea could mean his gaze would always be fixed on another shot at England’s top flight. This prospect could raise eyebrows amongst the Celtic faithful, especially considering recent managers elected to head south after their time at the club.

The journey to find a suitable successor for Ange Postecoglou is ongoing, with several names making the rounds in the rumour mill. Former Celtic defender and assistant Johan Mjallby believes Kjetil Knutsen could be the ideal candidate to replace Postecoglou. Other potential candidates linked to the post include Enzo Maresca and former boss Brendan Rodgers, the latter being available after parting ways with Leicester City. Mjallby emphasises the importance of appointing a manager with a similar attacking style to Postecoglou, citing the squad’s familiarity with this approach. A manager who favours an identical style of football could make for an easier transition, especially given the existing squad’s comfort with this gameplay.

Mjallby particularly highlights Knutsen’s experience and the similarity of his style to Postecoglou’s. Amidst this speculation, Celtic coaches John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan have been linked to Postecoglou’s team at Tottenham Hotspur. However, Mjallby puts forward Kennedy as a possible “continuity candidate” due to his long-standing association with the club and his comprehensive understanding of its inner workings.
