Former Celtic and Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster has been linked with a shock return to the club.

The Englishman has had several spells in Glasgow with the Hoops, and reports claim that the club will attempt to bring him back again this summer.

According to Sun Sport, Celtic have opened talks with the 33-year olds parent club, Southampton, over another loan spell at Parkhead, with Ange Postecoglou’s side.

The report also suggests that if Celtic want to bring the shot-stopper back to Glasgow, they will need to pay more of his wages this time around, with the Saints wanting around half of his £130,000 a week wage paid.

During his last spell with the Hoops in the 2019/20 season, Forster was very much a key component in Neil Lennon’s side which eventually went on to win the treble and had a successful spell in the group stages of the Europa League.

Some argue that Forster effectively won the League Cup for Celtic that season with his immense display at Hampden against Glasgow rivals Rangers.

Fans reactions to these latest reports are likely to be mixed due to his decision not to return last season and stick with his current club, despite Celtic going for a historic 10 in a row, which he could have played a crucial part in delivering.

  1. Great deal if we can pull it off ok the guy chose to return and fight for his place at Southampton but now hopefully a deal can be done for the wall as he is a great keeper and he knows the club and supporters

  2. Where are you getting the weekly wage of £130,000, he’s only £70,000 a week…
