Manchester City legend Richard Dunne has said that he believes Joe Hart will remain as Celtic’s number 1, with his experience invaluable to the side.

The former Republic of Ireland international and BT Sport pundit also revealed his plans to visit Celtic Park next season to watch the Bhoys take on Rangers.

Speaking to The Sunday Post, Dunne also discussed the future of his former teammate Joe Hart, expressing his belief that Hart will continue as Celtic’s number-one goalkeeper.

“A new guy will come in and Joe will be determined to show he is still number one. Goalkeeping is such a specialised position and any side that wants to be successful needs to have a talented person between the sticks.

“Guys such as Joe do not grow on trees. His experience and influence in the dressing room will be key as Celtic look to keep progressing. They will want to remain the dominant force in Scotland and control their own backyard. I think Joe can help them do that.

“But I also know that Joe would never take anything for granted. He will work really hard. It will be a new slate for everyone under a new manager but I do expect Joe to emerge as the number one.”

With Hart having just one year remaining on his contract, this summer is seen as a crucial period for his future at the club. While some argue that his position is due for an upgrade, Dunne is confident that the experienced shot-stopper still has much to offer.

But, with a new manager coming in, no one’s position is safe. It’s up to whoever Celtic appoints to see if they believe any area of the team needs any upgrades, and Joe Hart could well be a position that a manager wants to strengthen.
