CELTIC have been chasing a right back for the longest time. Brendan Rodgers knows it’s one of the most urgent positions he needs to address, but the bhoys are hitting a brick wall with targets they have scouted over the past year according to reports.

The Cristiano Piccini deal looked like it was a goer in the summer until the player made a snap decision late in the deal and moved to Valencia – the player will not be playing at Celtic Park this season after the clubs were drawn together in the last 32 of the Europa League.

Before the window opened, Celtic were heavily linked with a move for Atalanta’s Timothy Castagne, but that looks less and less likely the more we hear from the player or his agent.

Celtic have also been tracking Omar Elabdellaoui from Greek giants Olympiakos, however, their manager spoke yesterday about keeping all his top talent at the club until the summer and reports claimed of a much higher fee.

So do Celtic force the issue with one of these two defenders, or will they look elsewhere before the window closes?

  1. It looks like we never get the defenders that we need we need a RB a CH or two not work in progress buys but sold seasoned pros at the back and in a few more positions on the pitch, why we need seasoned pros as when we go to play in CL we do not get taken apart and lose lots of goals, look we can have young work in progress players but we need to be solid at the back and in midfield if we want to win some CL games and not look out of place…
