BRENDAN RODGERS has all but confirmed Cameron Carter-Vickers is set to start in Celtic’s first SPFL game of the season against Ross County at Celtic Park.

The Irishman spoke about his star centre-back ahead of the league opener after Cameron had to sit out most of pre-season due to recovering from knee surgery.

However, he got 45 minutes against Athletic Club on Tuesday during James Forrest’s testimonial and came through it unscathed.

Rodgers intimated that Cameron said he is good to start. Speaking to SunSport, Rodgers spoke about how impressed he is with the American international: “He’d been out on the pitch for four to five weeks, not always with us.

“He’s still a wee bit behind but he can get the fitness through games too.

“Cam’s a naturally fit boy. He’s been very impressive since coming in. I know his education. I know John McDermott, the technical director at the English FA, very well.

“John was at Tottenham for 15 years, so I know all the boys there that have come through.

“They are well-schooled in the game and on standards. I’ve seen Cameron from afar, seen him play for Celtic several times, and was impressed.

“But to see him close up, he’s very good.”

There is no doubt about it; CCV is Celtic’s star defender. He has been colossal at the back for the club over the past two seasons. His contribution to the team was exemplified perfectly when he put in a man-of-the-match performance against The Rangers in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup with a knee injury.

Cameron insisted he played the semi-final against Celtic’s Glasgow rivals before going under the knife, and he made that 90 minutes count. Without that performance, there may not have been a treble.

Celtic look to get their SPFL campaign off to the perfect start at the expense of Malky McKay’s Ross County.

Brendan Rodgers is back at Celtic Park in what promises to be an exciting season.
