Celtic winger Mikey Johnston came on at half-time against St. Johnstone on Sunday afternoon and made a notable impact on the game. The Irishman gave supporters some encouraging signs with his performance.

Indeed post-match, his manager Brendan Rodgers labelled him a standout. He said (Sky Sports): “He was outstanding. Bright, on both sides of the pitch he was excellent. He’s one that if he can improve his tactical idea of the game in terms of his pressing and understanding where to be then you can see the talent he has when he has the ball.”

From this point on, it will be intriguing to see what Johnston’s future looks like. His gaffer was the man who originally brought him through from the youth ranks at Lennoxtown, and he was visibly delighted with his contributions today.

With Yang’s disappointing display against St. Johnstone, indications point towards Johnston getting the nod against Hibs on Wednesday. It would be a long-awaited start for the Irishman, but one that is deserved.
