Celtic travelled to Dundee on Boxing Day in the cinch Premiership. In the end, the Hoops came away with three crucial points courtesy of goals from Paulo Bernardo and Mikey Johnston.
It was a dominative performance and post-match, manager Brendan Rodgers praised the festive sacrifices his players had to make: “I think the attitude and mentality in the game was very good”, he said (Sky Sports). “When you think about coming here on Christmas night, getting ready and coming here away from your family – I thought the mentality from the very first whistle was excellent.”
Football players have to surrender much of their Christmas when they are playing on Boxing Day. The Bhoys were no different today, but they didn’t let it impact them.
Throughout the match, they were on top of Dundee and the manager thinks they have learned some lessons from previous matches. He said (Sky Sports): “I think the team have had some harsh lessons over the past few weeks, but we spoke about that.”
Away to Kilmarnock not so long ago, the Celts let their opponents come on to them. That was in no way the case today where the Dee were forced back towards their own goal for the entirety of the game.
Rodgers was pleased with his side’s dominance and for him, all focus now goes towards Saturday’s Glasgow derby. Today’s win will have provided everyone inside the club with an enormous boost of confidence leading up to the match that is crucial in terms of the title race.
