DAVIE PROVAN revealed he got an angry text message from Ryan Christie’s dad, Charlie Christie after Provan wrote about the player’s lack of ambition when it came to joining Bournemouth.

Provan believed it was a backwards move for the former Celtic player and was scathing in his criticism in choosing to leave Celtic for a Championship side.

Charlie Christie took exception to the comments and messaged Provan about them.

Both men were at Celtic at the same time back in the day and Charlie wanted to make it clear the reasons behind Ryan’s exit.

“His dad Charlie, who I played with at Celtic and was a teammate of mine, messaged me this week and was very unhappy that I suggested Ryan’s ambition was in question.” Provan told SunSport.

“Basically he was just trying to point out that he sees Bournemouth as a stepping stone and a chance to kick on.

“Obviously he sees himself in the English Premier League at some stage.

“I just think he could have got a better club and, to put it simply, I think he’s a better player than Bournemouth. I think he can get a much better club than Bournemouth.”

Celtic sold Ryan on the final day of the summer window when it became clear the midfielder wasn’t going to sign a new contract with the club. The Hoops opted to get something for Ryan while they could and let him head off to Bournemouth.

There’s no denying it’s a step down with regards to the side he’s now playing for. Celtic are a much bigger club, with a bigger fanbase who play European football. Bournemouth are a small family club with an average stadium but who can offer better financial terms.

Let’s hope Ryan gets his wish to play in the EPL.
