Callum McGregor is a role model of a Celtic captain. Throughout his career, the now 30-year-old has devoted his career to the club.

Now as skipper, he sets the standard on and off the pitch each week. Recently, his former captain Scott Brown heavily praised him.

The ex-Fleetwood gaffer took McGregor under his wing when he was coming through at Lennoxtown. He said (Glasgow Times): “I helped him through tough times when we both played together and now he’ll be doing the exact same to other lads. I’ve passed that on to him and he has shown his qualities as well, whether it’s Champions League or in games against Rangers and St Johnstone, he is that man everyone looks to make something happen.”

McGregor is the beating heart of the Celtic side and has been for a number of years now. Many feared what would happen when Brown departed although the Scotland internationalist has more than stepped up to the plate.

Indeed since becoming captain of the champions, Brown, who won a colossal 22 trophies in his time at Parkhead, thinks McGregor has gone from strength to strength. He said: “He’s always had that in his locker, and he’s grown into it over the years and the expectation for being captain at Celtic has pushed his game on to another level. A lot of people could have gone under, but he’s controlled himself, understood the role and he’s relished the challenge.”

For Celtic’s sake, it will be hoped that the quadruple-treble-winning star can continue on at the current level he is at for a number of years. No one is more suited to the role of skipper of the Bhoys than the midfielder.

Each season, he is the role model in the team and hits new heights. For the sake of the club, it will be hoped McGregor can continue on at the level he is at for a number of years to come.
