THE SFA has announced on Friday afternoon they have appointed Martin Black as the NEW Compliance officer and is now in place for the second half of the season.

The appointment comes after VAR’s introduction wreaked havoc on games for the pat month before the World Cup break.

The compliance officer job in Scottish football is not a role you take if you want a quiet life. No matter what you do, and the decisions you make, you will be questioned and accused of bias etc.

Wee need a firm compliance officer, but most of all we need consistency. Nobody can credibly accuse you of bias if every issue is treated the same.

Celtic have been on the sharp end of some horrible decisions since VAR came into the fold. The hand ball issue is something that’s been threatening to take points off the Champions since the game at Tynecastle. The compliance officer won’t be looking at things like hand ball though.

If the referees and VAR do their job, Martin Black should have a quiet life. However, after what we witness in October and early November, we suspect he’ll be a busy man when the domestic game kicks off again in December.
