SHAMROCK ROVERS have reportedly made a play for former Celtic striker Anthony Stokes as the Irishman looks to get back into football.
The player has been without a club since leaving Greek side Apollon back in April after Stokes went awol.
The Hibs Scottish cup winner had a short stint training with St Mirren last month but there has been no movement on bringing him in from the Paisley club.
Shamrock Rovers, who were defeated 7-0 at the weekend by Celtic are apparently hoping the appeal of being back home in Ireland could be enough to entice Stokes to pull on the hoops!
The 29-year-old will weigh up his options in the next few weeks and will no doubt have a club before the start of the season.
There is no doubt Stokes is a talent but the sideshow of Hibs departure and failed Greece move has hurt him.
