HUGH KEEVINS believes Celtic fans who unfurled a banner saying ‘back Rodgers or lose him’ at the recent game versus Hamilton are mad if they think he hasn’t already been backed.
The Clyde SSB antagonist was at it again in his weekly column for the SSB site. The pundit who has seen empires come and go in Scottish football believes the Celtic fans are wide of the mark and Celtic continue to slog on even without some of their top players.
Celtic fans are becoming restless with the perceived lack of activity when it comes to bringing in a right-back before the deadline. Lustig put in a good performance on Saturday but the club needs a full-time replacement. The fans also know their centre-backs Benkovic and Boyata are off in the summer, leaving the squad bare for European qualifiers which is unlikely to be addressed before the summer.
Speaking about the banner and what it said, the Superscoreboard pundit pulled no punches.

“Celtic’s weekend win over Hamilton Accies was achieved without the club’s record signing, Odsonne Edouard, as well as Celtic’s most valuable player, Kieran Tierney.
“Then there was Tom Rogic, away with Australia at the Asian Cup, and Leigh Griffiths, scorer of over one hundred goals for Celtic but currently on compassionate leave.
“Craig Gordon was rested as well and James Forrest was left on the bench to begin with.
“If the manager was backed to any greater degree they would need to build an extension at Lennoxtown so that all of his playing staff could be accommodated”
Keevins went onto say that Rodgers has got everything he has asked for since coming through the door.
“No board of directors is perfect but those in power at Celtic Park have adopted a policy of what Brendan wants, Brendan gets ever since he arrived at the club.
“Million pound playing surface? No problem.
“Disco lights? Let’s get this party started.”
Cannot believe that you give this person time and space. The last two transfer periods we never really solved the problems and looks like being the same again two loan deals away end of season. Winger we don’t really need as we are now sending one out on loan No RB no movement No CB either with two leaving need quality not potential I believe majority of fans would back GB Banner Fans soaked again for Valencia game no surprise there

Agree with Keevins to some extent…..2-3m on Kouassi, 1m on Compper (30k on wages), Forrest, McGregor, Christie on long term contracts, Sinclair (however much he cost but he’s on a fortune wagewise, 3-4m on lights, 2-4m on a gubbed “diseased” pitch…….I could go on but I still think there’s money to go and splash on a defender but who would come to our league unless not getting played, needing to resurrect their career or winding down their final years. Any player at their peak doesn’t want to come to Scotland
Sorry I have to agree with Hugh Keevins to some extent, some of the managers signings have not been great. There have been to many that have not made the grade and never will, we keep hearing quality over quantity but unfortunately that is not what we have been working to.
Keevins wants to see Celtic stuck about the same level as Rangers. A bit of investment in the team should see us having a decent go at CL group stage qualifications and all the money it brings.
Celtics net worth = plenty. Celtics gross worth – transfer fees. Still plenty though = Shi7e in European cups and pissed all over home and away. Celtics transfer policy, buy low sell high. And just enough to keep the Sponsors, investors happy, fans happy they’re winning a league titles and a cup or two. Good business acumen for the suit’s, heartache for the fans because of it. Can do better in Europe without massive investment my arse. Invest a quarter of what they make, on players now or remain sevcos bigger, richer, untouchable brother only.
Some fans don’t seem to get that we have actually tried for players including Right Backs and Centre Backs but they have turned us down for whatever reason. Some are simply too expensive or are asking for too much in wages and as Rodgers has said what is the point of replacing players with someone who is no better.
We failed to get McGinn, but we found a player in our squad who is better and cost us nothing.
We all know defence is an issue but Brendan is calling the shots and he has chosen to prioritise forwards and wingers. He kept Boyata when we had 9 million offered and that cost us a place in the Champion’s League as well as the loss of transfer money.
Our team is good enough to win the league but there are too many keyboard ‘football managers’ – I prefer to let Brendan do the spending and selling as he has won 7 trophies in a row.
Those who want to spend spend spend should remember that we almost went out of business, and that other clubs did go bankrupt following that approach. Lucky for us McCann refused to listen to the boo bhoys and spent what ee could afford. Our current board have provided 10’s of millions in wages and transfers in recent years and have tied up our best players in long term deals that protects us if they decide to leave.
Totally agree with Paul absloutly spot on with what he said they quite clearly know what their doin sick of hearing fans goin on about should’ve spent this and that when it’s not good business sense after all that is what it is now a big big business and like all good businesses should be run with making money in mind and to work within the constraints of playing in Scottish football which PL& the rest of the board at parkhead have done extremely well and like Peter said its not like we haven’t been trying it’s now known that a couple of players”RB”have refused to come to the club so their not going to just pay money and bring in a RB to appease a minority of the support why do we not just do the watching as supporters and let them as chairmen and board members run the club and managers coaches and players do the coaching the “MANAGING” do the managing and players do the entertaining it’s worked for many of years now hail hail
I agree with the guy Brendan Rodgers has been backed we can’t go out ant buy 10 million pound players some people need a reality check
