A proper blast from the past when it comes to Scottish football Simon Stainrod has told Celtic they shouldn’t fear Rennes on Thursday night.

The former Dundee manager turned football agent doesn’t get the hype when it comes to Rennes and made the revelation they are a mid-table side at best. The Frenchman also says even says Rennes were a better side last season than this term.

“If Celtic were playing Lille or Lyon or PSG, I’d say those would be dangerous places for them to go. But Rennes? Not really.” Stainrod told SunSport.

“They are a good side but not a great one. They finished last season in mid-table and qualified for the Europa League because they won the French Cup. Mid-table is about right for them.

“They were actually a better side last season.”

Rennes are a great technical side and are the type of team who will capitalise on silly mistakes if Celtic make any on the night. That’s the real difference, if Celtic play a loose pass or are slack at the back in the SPFL they might just get away with it, however, if they do it in France they will likely be punished.

We shouldn’t show the home side too much respect and believe in ourselves on the night. Celtic know home games will matter most but picking up points on the road could prove invaluable.
