ISMALIA SORO was sent off just minutes into Arouca’s match at the weekend. Video footage that surfaced on social media shows that it was the correct decision, with Soro’s studs making heavy contact with the opposition player’s ankle. It was an ankle-breaker of a challenge.

It’s a problem in the midfielder’s game; he’s too reckless. Soro is often giving the referee a decision to make and seems to constantly watch his name get written into the man in the middle’s book.

He’s appeared six times this season in the Portuguese league and has been cautioned twice and sent off once, not the best first impression from the midfielder.

Although, his manager has defended him. As quoted by the Daily Record, the Arouca boss said;

“Sometimes it makes me want to say that we need to standardise the criteria we have (for red cards). I get sad sometimes because it gives the feeling that the disciplinary criteria are not uniform for all teams. I don’t question the expulsions, but all the criteria (for fouls) throughout the game. Simulations are yellow, one player beats the other in the area, is tapped on the foot, falls and is ordered to follow.

“Fouls in which the law of advantage is given and then it is not turned back to show yellow. There are a number of moves that if we scrutinised. There was a lot for the players who were sent off to develop and improve on. It’s not the right place to it (in the press).”

It’ll be a worry for Celtic if this becomes a common occurrence. The club has installed an option to buy into Soro’s contact, and constant disciplinary issues may make Arouca think twice before taking him on permanently, leaving Celtic with the task of finding him another club.
