It looks like Celtic will be at a significant disadvantage as the reserve league draws to a close in the next seven days with a farcical end to the resurrected SPFL Reserve League set to take place.

The current state of play is Celtic need to better the Ibrox club’s result by four goals to be crowned SPFL Reserve Champions.

Hibs have played all their games and sit top of the league on 35 points, Celtic and The Rangers have one more game to play each and both are on 35 points also.

The fact the SPFL can’t tie all these games up so the season finishes at the same time is pretty poor and is maybe just one of the reasons the clubs are looking at ditching the format next season.

As it stands at the moment, Celtic will play their game on Friday, May 3 against St Johnstone at Lennoxtown and they will have no idea what kind of result they need because The Rangers game isn’t pencilled in until the Monday after.

The Ibrox club’s last game is against Falkirk and a win should be enough for them but Celtic are in a position where they won’t know how many goals would be enough to snatch the league title at the death. All they can do is play their game and hope to score as many goals as possible on the day.

Should Celtic and The Rangers both lose on the day then Hibernian would be crowned champions. The Edinburgh side also disadvantaged by the fixture chaos.
