DAVID WOTHERSPOON has claimed that Celtic fans will love their new signing Alistair Johnston, and has admitted that he told the Canadian full-back that the move was a no-brainer.
Wotherspoon was called dup to the World Cup squad and played 14 minutes in Qatar. The North American country finished with no points but did put in an impressive showing, particularly against Belgium.
The player, turned agent for Johnston, has said great things about the new Celtic signing, admitting he’s a great player and person. He’s predicted that he’ll become a fan favourite soon enough.
“He spoke to me about the move a lot and I told him it was a no-brainer. Celtic are a massive club,” David Wotherspoon told The Sun.
“He’s a great guy first and foremost and a great defender.
“You’ve seen in the World Cup what he can do and I think he’s one of those type of defenders Celtic fans will love.
“Alistair is robust and Mr Consistent. He has the attributes to do well in Scottish football.
“He’ll be tested in Europe as well, of course.
“The fact he’s played at the highest level of international football now will stand him in good stead. I’m looking forward to seeing him when he comes across and looking forward to playing against him hopefully as well.
“We could well be on the same side of the pitch.
“Unfortunately he knows all about the chop and will be ready for it.”
Johnston has been brought in as a replacement for Juranovic, who’s expected to leave Celtic in the winter window. The right-back has been solid as his country progresses into the quarter-finals in Qatar, with many clubs around Europe keeping an eye on the player.
It’s great to see Celtic bring a replacement in before anything happens with Juranovic, and will avoid any panic signings like JonJoe Kenny on a six-month loan.
