Former footballer and pundit Alan Rough revealed he hates the nature of ‘cheap’ handball penalties during the latest PLZ Soccer show.

Celtic were given their first SPFL penalty since April against Livingston on Sunday afternoon. The decision came from VAR with referee Willie Collum having to go over to look at the monitor.

It was deemed a hand ball, and within today’s rules it most certainly was.

Roughy believes if it’s unintentional, it shouldn’t be a penalty.

Instead of people potentially getting defensive over this. It can be a penalty and Roughy can also be right.

Within the letter of the handball law nowadays, it’s a penalty kick. However, should this rule be revised? There’s so much ambiguity surrounding the hand ball rule, it could be doing with gaining some clarity.

Celtic missed the penalty but were already well in control of the game. The bhoys won 3-0 to hold their four point lead at the top of the table.

We would expect Celtic to get more penalties in general now VAR is in place. It’s crazy to think the most attacking my potent side in the league don’t get spot kicks that often. Especially when you take into account how most oppositions try to set up against us.
