CELTIC are closing in on the signing of Alistair Johnston from Montreal FC. It’s now being reported that both clubs have agreed on a fee, and everything else is in place for the transfer. [RecordSport]
Alistair is currently at the World Cup with Canada and came up against the man he’s likely to replace at Celtic, Josip Juranovic. The two countries fought it out on Sunday afternoon in Qatar.
Celtic fans have been watching this transfer develop with a lot of interest. It’s new for many supporters that Celtic would be lining up a move for a player in anticipation of another leaving. Through the years, Celtic have been reactive rather than proactive. It’s a refreshing change of pace.
Alistair had been asked over the past few days about a Celtic move. During those chats, he’s not denied interest and talked up the club as well.
There are no firm reports of Juranovic leaving in January, but Celtic must know something we don’t. It has been reported that Josip is looking for improved terms, but the club and player can’t agree on terms.
We would expect the Johnston deal to be wrapped up shortly now Canada have been knocked out of the World Cup.
