CELTIC were drawn against Dunfermline in the League Cup round of 16 by former Parkhead frontman Chris Sutton.

The bhoys will take on the Pars at Celtic Park for the first time in nine years when they come to town in mid-August.

However, with Chris doing the draw for the game and his mate and BT colleague Darrell Currie in attendance he couldn’t help himself to a little dig over what Sutton said about Dunfermline all those years ago when the Fife side went to Ibrox and were battered 6-1 on the final day of the season.

The league was going to goal difference and it was as tight as it could get, Dunfermline shipping six goals meant Celtic missed out on the title that year. Later we would find out they had been propping up their side with an illegal tax avoidance scheme.

At the time, Chris Sutton made the claim that everyone knew Dunfermline were going to lie down to the Ibrox club. Dunfermline even threatened to sue Chris at one point.

When Currie brought that up to him after the draw, Sutton raised a smile.

Darrell said: “Celtic v Dunfermline as you say, should be straightforward for the holders. No lying down in that game?” as cited by SunSport.

Sutton responded: “What you saying that for Darrell? That was a long time ago.

“We all say things we don’t mean.”
