Chris Sutton is urging the club to make Scott Brown a new contract offer for the good of the club.

The Celtic captain’s career looks like it’s winding down and while he won’t be a massive influence on the pitch which he once was, Sutton believes keeping him at the club will help the transition from this season to next.

Celtic are going to hit the reset button this summer, even if they didn’t want to, it’s going to be pushed.

Top stars in the final year of their deals will seek moves, under performers will have to be moved on and loan deals will come to an end.

In all the upheaval, Sutton wants there to be one constant, a player who commands respect from the team and who can integrate any new players.

“I’ll tell you one thing. With so much uncertainty around Celtic and huge upheaval looming in the coming months, it would be crazy not to have Brown around that dressing room for 2021-22.” He told RecordSport.

“I’m not saying he should be playing 20 or 25 games. It might only be five or 10. As he turns 36 years of age of June, it might not be any.”

If the management were to go this summer and we had to wait for a new man to come in. Scott Brown would be the default leader of the playing staff.

If he isn’t signed up to a new deal, then he can go play elsewhere next season, leaving Celtic with not much remnants of the nine in a row era. Could he be convinced to simply be a coach?
