The old saying goes, you don’t ask, you don’t get but even Gillingham must have known they were going to get a solid no when they approached Celtic for Karamoko Dembele.

Recordsport are running an exclusive claiming the League One side made an ambitious approach for the Celtic teenager but it was swiftly booted out by the club

The paper writes:’Celtic have knocked back an ambitious loan bid from Gillingham to take Karamoko Dembele on loan.

‘The Gills boss made a move to try and land the young protégé for the second half of the season.’

Dembele played in a bounce game against Huddersfield on Tuesday afternoon, scoring for the developmental side. The winger also got a small amount of game time for the first team against Ross County at the weekend.

Nei Lennon is slowly looking to bring the youngster into the fold but wary of giving Dembele too much too soon. Gillingham obviously wanted to pitch the first-team football idea to the Scottish Champions but I don’t think they’d fancy the winger heading south to a very rough and tumble league.

The bid feels like a game of Football Manager I’ve tried my luck trying to sign Celtic’s top young talent.
