Aberdeen star Scott McKenna has reportedly handed in a transfer request after being patient about a move away from the club last season according to the BBC.

Celtic and more specifically Brendan Rodgers tried to sign the defender last season but the Dons rebuffed an offer from the Scottish champions.

Since then, it’s all gone quiet on any speculation surrounding McKenna and Celtic. Today’s news puts him right back in the picture whether the club has any interest in him still or not.

It’s not beyond the realms of possibility as Christopher Jullien was on Celtic’s radar when Brendan Rodgers was the manager. The Celtic scouting team will keep in regular contact with players they have recommended and McKenna could still be on the list.

The problem with any deal is Aberdeen have already rejected big money for him and Celtic should not go near the figures being talked about last season.

With Jozo linked with a move away before the window, it could be something Celtic explore to replace the Croatian but right now all that’s linking the club and the player is last season’s link.

McKenna splits opinion among the Celtic support. The defender’s timing of the request seems like there’s more behind it than meets the eye. Aberdeen are about to head into vital Europa league qualifiers with two of their defenders already out in injured – has his head been turned?

  1. I agree CD.
We don’t want him. We don’t need him.
He isn’t good enough and his thuggish on field behaviour is not what we want at our club.
I would be surprised if Neil Francis Lennon wanted him.
