Former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie believes Joe Hart won’t be Celtic’s number one by this time next year, tipping his current understudy Benjamin Siegrist to become the new hoops number one.

Joe has been a stalwart in Ange Postecoglou’s side since making the £1m move from Spurs 18 months ago.

Joe has been a fantastic servant and will certainly be a face who is remembered under the Ange regime when everything is said and done.

The former England goalkeeper will come into the final year of his Celtic contract next season. At which point; the manager will have to decide if he wants to keep Joe in the side or bring on the next number one.

While Siegrist is number two at the moment, there’s no guarantee the former Dundee Utd goalkeeper will be Joe’s automatic replacement.

McAvennie believes he is telling Football Insider:

“I think Joe has got bags of experience.

“He has got a year, he will not do anything rash or stupid. I think Siegrist will be number one.

“At this moment in time Joe Hart has not done anything wrong to give that up. But he knows next year things can change.”

Celtic’s Number One

Celtic have had a really strong line up of goalkeepers since Gordon Strachan’s time at the club. Artur Boruc, Fraser Forster, Craig Gordon, Fraser again and now Joe. There’s no doubt Benjamin deserve a chance to show what he can do, but when Joe does hang up his Celtic gloves, fans will be looking for their next big goalkeeper signing.
