Ange Postecoglou once advised Tom Rogic to leave Celtic back in 2014 when he wasn’t playing at all for the Hoops.

Tom wasn’t an instant hit at Celtic when he came into the club, his rise from fringe youngster to first team star was a slow burn but a journey the Celtic fans were delighted to see unfold.

Had Tom taken Ange’s advice at the time, the now Celtic manager would not have the midfielder in his team as he continues his Hoops rebuild.

Speaking back in 2014, Ange told SportsMole a move to the J-League would suit Tom:

“I think that would be fantastic,”

“Arnie knows him, we know Arnie is a fantastic coach… he’s got the best out of Tommy and the J-League is a strong competition. I don’t see why not.

“It’s a World Cup year. There wouldn’t be a player on the planet who is going to a World Cup who wouldn’t for the next six months think the best move for him would be to play regular football.”

Ange was absolutely right at the time. Tom was not being played and he wouldn’t get regular game time until Ronny Deila came onto the scene.

Our piece on Neil Lennon not utilising Tom during both the Irishman’s spells at the club is damning.

The Hoops manager will certainly be glad Tom stuck around. The Celtic hero even had the opportunity to leave the club last year and knocked it back to stay and fight for his position.

The Australian’s goal against Dundee United was a timely reminder of how good the bhoy really is!
