RUMOURS from Voetball International claim Celtic and other top clubs are waiting in the wings to try and sign 17-year-old starlet Xavier Mbuyamba from MVV Maastricht if his trial at Chelsea doesn’t come to anything.

The young defender is a top prospect with the report claiming Dutch clubs have taken a nap on Xavier while scouts from outside the country have looked at him. The player doesn’t hold a professional contract at the moment and could go for a small developmental fee or nothing depending on where he goes.

The 17-year-old has made 11 appearances for MVV in the second tier of Dutch football and has yet to put pen to paper on a new deal.

This has alerted many clubs with the rumour Celtic are also interested.

The report reads: “Celtic, Porto FC, Bayern Munich and Liverpool are also above average interested. Heracles Almelo and FC Groningen, among others, follow his actions from the Eredivisie, although that interest is not yet concrete”

You have to believe if any of the aforementioned clubs after Celtic wanted to sign the player then there’s no chance he will end up at Celtic.

It remains to be seen who is pulling the strings at Parkhead at the moment with no full-time manager and no head of recruitment. Who would be looking to bring Xavier in?
